St. Bernard Development Office 

The St. Bernard Development Office is part of the foundation on which we have built our current success and our plans for the future.   Representing both St. Bernard Abbey and St. Bernard Preparatory School, the personnel in this office tell the story of St. Bernard's steady growth and expansion.   Generous alumni and benefactors join the work of the monks by supporting the projects and initiatives of the Development Office so that we continue to grow the life and ministries of St. Bernard Abbey and Prep School. 

Since the early 1990s, these major capital projects have been completed:

  • - Construction of the Fazi-Richard Athletic Center
  • - Renovation of the St. Bernard Conference and Retreat Center
  • - Restoration of the Football/Soccer Stadium
  • - Construction of the New Concession Building
  • - Renovation of the Tennis Facilities
  • - Remodeling of Dormitories for the Boarding School
  • - Installation of new IT equipment and campus telephone system 
  • - Construction and expansion of Ave Maria Grotto Visitor Center and Gift Shop
  • - Installation of new elevator in the monastery
  • - An upgrade of the monastery and dining hall heating and air conditioning 

Future plans call for:

  • - Restoration of the Heidrich Building
  • - Construction of a structure for theater and fine arts
  • - Addition of a student union
  • - General maintenance of the heritage buildings on our campus 

Along with capital improvements, the Development Office conducts two appeals each year.  The first is our "Annual Appeal" for the general operation of the abbey, the school, and our associated ministries.  The goal of this appeal is currently $350,000.  The other appeal is our "Summer Appeal" which targets a specific need for improvement while school is not in session.  The goal of this appeal is decided during the month of May and will vary depending on the project for the summer. 

The St. Bernard Prep School Education Foundation is an endowment fund that makes it possible for students in financial need to attend St. Bernard Preparatory School.  These awards are given in the form of scholarships to students who qualify.  This foundation is managed through the St. Bernard Development Office.
